Our New Logo & Online Shop
We are excited to announce the launch of our new logo as part of our brand refresh and an online shop just in time for Italian Heritage Month!
Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a Catholic Church steeped in Italian heritage and brimming with history. Since the beginning of the year, our Marketing Committee has been busy updating our visual identity to better reflect that.
Our website underwent a full-scale redesign and was unveiled in June with a more user-friendly interface, dedicated brand colors, and a streamlined look. Such a drastic update meant the logo needed a redesign as well. Read on to learn the story of the old and new.
Goodbye to our previous logo
In 2007, a marketing study showed that the majority of people living near Mt. Carmel had no idea we even existed. Pastor Fr. Hugh Guentner, OSM created the Marketing Committee in 2013 to address this problem. Within a few months, we had a new website and logo, dedicated branding for our events, and a social media presence. Our original logos were:
- A simple line drawing of the church structure with the words: “Our Lady of Mount Carmel Historic Catholic Church of Denver”. This was used most often.
- A color drawing of the church with mountains on a blue background
In the years to follow, Mt. Carmel’s online reach soared, effectively solving the issue presented by the 2007 study. However, the ever-changing digital world meant that in 2022, it was time for something new.
The New, Improved Logo
When we decided to update our logo, we wanted to demonstrate the church’s rich character and history. In order to do so, we kept the exterior of the church building at the forefront. Mt. Carmel stands as a unique structure in the Archdiocese of Denver, dating back to 1904. We are probably most recognized by our architecture. For this reason, we decided to create a more accurate representation with more details.
Our previous logos did no justice to our beautiful stained glass rose window, so we made sure to emphasize that in the refresh. After the architecture, the rose window is Mt. Carmel’s most recognizable feature.
Additionally, we wanted to pay homage to Mt. Carmel’s Italian heritage. The church was founded in 1894 by Italian immigrants in an area once known as Denver’s Little Italy. The congregation is still predominately Italian, with some families going back to the church’s very beginnings. Thus, we added the Italian colors and the words “Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Historic Catholic Church of Denver.”
To convey the church’s historical significance, we added “Est. 1894”. We also changed the overall font to a serif style that evokes a more traditional feeling.
We have an alternative logo that is also a line drawing, but still checks all the boxes for accuracy, details, and homage.
